X-MAS CONTEMPORARY world premiere trailer
What does Christmas mean to you?
Twelve composers from different countries and cultures give very different answers to this question. The task they received was to write an approximately five-minute-long work for voice and ensemble, using musical means to depict what they associate with Christmas. They were free to choose whether religion or tradition play a role. An objective view, criticism and satire were all possible.
The composers are
Karim Al Zand (USA)
Jami Man (Great Britain)
Matan Porat (Israel)
Manfred Trojahn (Germany)
Annette Schluenz (Germany/France)
José-Maria Sanchez-Verdu (Spain)
Detlev Glanert (Germany)
Olga Rayeva (Russia)
Michèle Réverdy (France)
Jobst Liebrecht (Germany)
Arno Waschk (Germany)
Vanessa Lann (USA/The Netherlands)
Their works were recorded with baritone Dietrich Henschel and the ensemble unitedberlin conducted by Vladimir Jurowsky.
As a counterpart to the 12 modern compositions 12 traditional Christmas carols were recorded, spontaneously interpreted as improvised sessions in duo formation: the percussionist Simone Rubino and the baritone Dietrich Henschel.
